Brenda Lawrence - Program Administrator

Brenda Lawrence is co-founder of Family Design Resources, Inc (FDR). Brenda is also the agency’s Program Administrator and supervises the Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN) contract. She received her bachelor of arts in social welfare from Pennsylvania State University and completed her master’s of social work from West Virginia University.

Brenda began her social work career in juvenile and adult prison work in both Pennsylvania and West Virginia. She became committed to child welfare in 1976 and later worked as a cognitive therapist/case manager and director of Social Services at a children’s home. Brenda became the first South Central Regional Training Director for the Child Welfare Competency Based Training Program in 1992. She was also a board member to the Tri-County Big Brother/Big Sister program for 11 years.

Brenda has been involved in the SWAN contract since 1995. In 1999 she co-founded FDR to promote training and consultation about permanency for children. Brenda serves on the Child Welfare Planning Committee, sits as a non-voting member to the SWAN Advisory Committee and is an advisor to the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association.

On a personal note, Brenda is an adoptive parent in a transracial adoption. She enjoys living in the central Pennsylvania area and supporting her son’s athletic events.
