Diversity Conference Registration Now Open

2/9/2010

Family Design Resources is pleased to announce that registration for “Diversity: It’s Not Just Black or White,” a two-day conference to be held May 20 and 21 in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, is now open. Anyone interested in exploring diversity issues related to service delivery to children and families is encouraged to attend. The conference is specifically geared toward resource families and professionals in the fields of child welfare, education, juvenile justice, and medical and mental health.

The cost to attend is $150, which includes breakfast and lunch each day of the conference. To register and view the full conference brochure, visit http://www.3riversadopt.org/Diversity2010.asp.

The conference features several notable professionals representing various fields and a cross reference of knowledge and experience. Dr. Sandra E. Moore, Professor of Social Work at the University of Louisville, will present the keynote address May 20 on the topic of “Racial and Ethnic Identity Development in Youth.” Day two of the conference includes a panel discussion on diversity and inclusion as necessary facets when working with children, families and communities. The distinguished panelists include Dr. Marcia Sturdivant, Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Children, Youth and Families; Eleanor Bush, Esq., Legal Services Training Specialist with Family Design Resources; Candi Castleberry-Singleton, Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer, UPMC; and Joseph Petrella, Assistant Superintendant with the Gateway School District.

Family Design Resources and our co-sponsor, Three Rivers Adoption Council, understand that increasing knowledge, developing skills and improving professional practice through the exploration of diversity-related issues is essential to meet the needs of children and families. Our agencies challenge all who attend to look within themselves and make small, personal changes that will lead to greater change in our communities.
